Online therapy in Kenya
Confidential online counselling with licensed Kenyan therapists. Offered through your employer's wellbeing programme.
Why online therapy is growing in Kenya
Access to mental health services in Kenya has historically been limited by geography, cost, and stigma. With approximately one licensed therapist per 450,000 people, most Kenyans who need support have been unable to access it. Online therapy is changing this by removing the barriers of distance, scheduling constraints, and the stigma of walking into a physical clinic.
Digital literacy in Kenya is rising rapidly — with over 50 million mobile phone users and widespread internet access. Young Kenyans increasingly turn to digital platforms when seeking mental health guidance, often late at night when clinics are closed.

Questions about online therapy
- How does online therapy work?
- Online therapy allows you to meet a licensed therapist through a secure video session from your phone, tablet or computer. After joining Mindscape through an employer invitation or approved therapist referral, you complete a short intake, review recommended therapists, choose a suitable profile and book a session at an available time.
- Are Mindscape therapists licensed?
- Yes. Mindscape verifies that therapists are licensed and in good standing with the relevant regulatory authorities in the jurisdictions where they practise. The Kenyan network includes clinical psychologists, counselling psychologists and licensed professional counsellors with different areas of specialisation.
- Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
- Research consistently shows online therapy is as effective as in-person therapy for most conditions, including anxiety, depression, and stress. The convenience often improves consistency: clients attend sessions more regularly when they can do so from home.
- Are sessions confidential?
- Yes. Sessions are encrypted and therapists are bound by professional confidentiality standards. Mindscape does not share session content, therapy notes or identifiable health information with an employer. As with any therapy service, confidentiality may be limited where disclosure is required by law or necessary to respond to a serious and immediate safety risk.
- What if I don't connect with my matched therapist?
- You can browse other available therapists and switch at any time. The therapeutic relationship is personal, so finding the right fit matters.
- What concerns can therapists support?
- Therapists on Mindscape support concerns including anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, substance-use concerns and workplace challenges. Your intake responses help identify professionals with relevant experience, and your therapist can advise whether online therapy is appropriate for your needs.
- Do I need special equipment?
- No. You only need a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera, microphone, and internet connection. Sessions work in your web browser.
- Does Mindscape offer Swahili-speaking therapists?
- Yes, subject to therapist availability. You can include Swahili or English in your language preferences during intake, and Mindscape's matching system prioritises therapists who meet your language and cultural needs.
- Is online therapy suitable for emergencies?
- No. Mindscape's online therapy service and Nuru are not emergency or crisis-response services. If you or someone else may be in immediate danger or at risk of self-harm, contact local emergency services or go to the nearest emergency department, and reach out to a trusted person who can stay with you. Do not wait for an online appointment.
